The Best World Series in Years

I think the Yankees vs. Phillies is easily the best World Series matchup of the past decade. On paper, this series has it all. First, you’ve got two major markets with rabid fanbases. Yankee fans, fairweather or otherwise, are abundant, and everyone in sports knows you can’t match Philadephia fans for intensity.

Second, unlike previous years, this year you can say both teams definitely deserve to be there. No fluke wins, no hot streaks, just top level baseball all season long.

Then you’ve got all-stars, Cy Young Winners and MVPs. While the Yankees boast household names like Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, CC Sabathia, Mark Teixiera, A-Rod, etc., the Phillies counter, with Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Cliff Lee and the returning World Series MVP Cole Hamels.

This has the potential be the kind of World Series that people actually take note of it, which would be good for a baseball season that hasn’t provided a lot of sizzle.

Since the Cardinals are out, I’m going to revise my prediction to the Yankees in seven hard-fought games, letting them inaugurate the new Yankee Stadium with what will likely be the first of many World Series wins in the new building.
