This wasn’t a surprise, but it some ways it’s still a little sad to see. After an exciting career plagued with personal issues, Theo Fleury announced the end of his comeback attempt and his permanent retirement from the NHL. After not playing in the NHL since 2002-03, and overcoming alcohol addiction, he was giving it one last valiant try, and didn’t look completely out of place trying to gain a spot on the Calgary Flames roster. Though at 41 years of ago, and with 5′6″ players even less in vogue now in the NHL than when Fleury was a consistent 30 goal threat.
Plus, I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure he was a great skater to use in one of the old NHL video games.
