It looks like the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to go the entire season with all their home games blacked out. Which is really rather remarkable. It’s not unusal for a team in a small or weak market to face a blackout threat every few years (such as when the Browns come to town). But to face the loss of your fans to not be able to watch a home game on television all year is remarkable, and probably a sign of unpleasant things to come.
Because Jacksonville was an iffy pro market at the best of times, and Florida itself is a not a great state for professional sports (translation: Go Gaters, Go Seminoles and Go Hurricanes), it seemed to be just a matter of time before the economic realities caught up with the franchise, and they left town. And I would think with this latest bit of news, that’s another nail in the cofffin of professional football in Jacksonville.
The only question for me at this point is how long until this team because the Los Angeles Jaguars? Do they have Jaguars in LA? Does it matter? They don’t have lakes either.
